Sphaeropsis Tip Blight

Sphaeropsis Tip Blight (Sphaeropsis sapinea) - Also called Diplodia tip blight, Sphaeropsis is most common in mature pine trees 15 years or older. Symptoms are most evident in the spring when new needles are stunted as they begin to grow on lower branches. These needles will ultimately yellow, brown, then die. As the disease progresses, it invades twigs and causes branch flagging up the tree leaving only top portions of the canopy green while the reminder of the tree appears brown or dead.
