Oak Wilt

Oak Wilt (Bretziella fagacearum) - "Oak wilt is one of the most destructive tree diseases in the\r\nUnited States, and it is killing oak trees in Central Texas\r\nat epidemic proportions. Oak wilt is an infectious disease\r\ncaused by a fungus, which invades and disables the water-conducting system in susceptible trees. All species of oaks in Central\r\nTexas can be infected with the oak wilt fungus. Red oaks\r\n(Spanish oak, Shumard oak, blackjack oak) and live oaks\r\nare most commonly killed by oak wilt when compared\r\nwith white oaks (post oak, bur oak, Mexican white oak)\r\nwhich are less commonly killed. However, those white\r\noaks such as shin oak, chinkapin oak and Lacey oak that\r\ngrow in stands with interconnected root systems also may\r\ndie in large numbers from oak wilt."
