Buck Moth

(Hemileuca maia) - The buck moth, Hemileuca maia (Drury), is a member of Saturniidae, the giant silkworm family. Caterpillars have numerous multi-branched spines on their bodies, which are used defensively, delivering a sting when touched. This caterpillar is found on grasses and can be problematic for livestock in infested pastures.
