Frost Crack

When temperatures fluctuate during the winter season, water inside the bark and stem of a tree expands and contracts. These frequent tensions create cracks that can can cause major problems for the health of a tree. Cracks are also affiliated with another health problem known as sunscald, where cells are damaged when these temperature fluctation occurs and localized decay may be evident.
