Pine Tip Moth

Pine Tip Moth (Rhyacionia spp) - Pine tip moths are a major forest pest in the United States. Their range stretches as far as Massachusetts to the north, Florida to the south, and Texas to the west. It has recently be introduced into California where it has been notorious for infesting Christmas tree farms. In Texas, common host plants include members of the yellow pine family such as loblolly, shortleaf, longleaf, and slash pines. As its name suggests, the moth primarily attacks growth shoots on the tips of pine branches and stems. This can have a serious impact on growth, reproduction, and overall health of pine trees.
