Black Twig Borer

Black Twig Borer (Xylosandrus compactus) - Adult female black twig borers are1.4 to 1.9 mm in length and 0.7 to 0.8 mm in width. Their body is stout, cylindrical, elongate, brown to black, and have distinct punctures on their posterior. Adult male length is typically 0.8 to 1.1 mm, and width is 0.4 to 0.5 mm. Their body is rounded, dwarfed, and reddish-brown. All characters are poorly formed, flightless and rare. Egg are small (0.3 mm wide x 0.5 mm long), white, and ovoid. Mature larva length ca. 2 mm; head capsule pale brown; body creamy white and legless. Pupa length similar to adult; body creamy white.
