- Prevent Oak Wilt:
All oak species are susceptible to oak wilt and it is one of the most destructive tree diseases in the U.S. It is caused by a fungus and aided by a sap-feeding beetle that carries fungal spores to new trees. Avoid spreading oak wilt by only using local firewood. Avoid pruning an oak tree between February-June. With any pruning at any time of the year, always paint the wounds on an oak tree.
