1ST ANNUAL VALIANT TREE PLANTING AND GIVEAWAY EVENT
The event is made possible through funding from Valiant. Through this annual partnership, Valiant will be helping support the City of Midland’s replacement tree program. This program tracks newly planted trees that are unable to survive and establish in harsher West Texas conditions. With this funding, Midland will be able to maintain and increase tree canopy in public spaces.
Thirty (30) mature trees will be planted at Beal Park and over 200 seedlings will be available for free. Seedlings are first come, first served. Keep Midland Beautiful and the Texas A&M Forest Service will have education booths and engagement opportunities. Volunteers are encouraged to come and celebrate Veterans Day and make a positive environmental impact in their community.
Autumn is the perfect time to plant trees in our state, which is why Texas Arbor Day is celebrated the first Friday of November each year. Arbor Day is an annual observance across the country that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care.
This project is part of the Texas A&M Forest Service’s Green Futures corporate sustainability partnership program. The program connects corporate funding to local nonprofit organizations to implement on the ground urban forestry projects.
Many people are aware of the great ecosystem and resilience benefits forests and trees provide to their communities. This can include, cooler temperatures, energy savings, cleaner air, property value increases, watershed services and more. However, forests and nature also play a powerful role in part of trauma recovery for physical and mental health. Studies have shown that spending more time in treed areas actually helps to improve mood and alleviate depression and anxiety. Time spent in these treescapes decrease stress hormones and help to regulate heart rate and blood pressure. By planting more trees in Beal Park and throughout Midland, we can take advantage of all these great benefits trees have to offer!
